Parliamentarian Eduard Pieters visited the Arubaanse Voetbal Bond (AVB) to learn more about the Women’s Development Program, a strategic plan focused on the development of women’s football in Aruba.
For Pieters, the meeting was not just a sports presentation; it was a reflection on leadership, equal opportunity, and investment in the future of our youth.
Women’s football is not a secondary topic. It is a driver of social and personal development, shaping character, discipline, and leadership in a new generation of athletes.
A Strategic Plan with Vision
During the presentation, AVB shared its comprehensive program based on several strategic pillars, including leadership, sports development, participation, and institutional strengthening. The goal is clear: to create a sustainable structure for women’s football, where girls and women can develop their talent and personality as leaders in sports and in the community.
According to Pieters, sports always serve as a school of leadership. Athletes learn discipline, teamwork, resilience, and responsibility—skills that later reflect in all other aspects of life. Therefore, this program is not only about winning matches but also about shaping future leaders.
Role of Parliament in Sports Development
As a parliamentarian, Pieters emphasized that Parliament plays an important role in supporting sports development.
“Not just with words, but with public action. Parliament can ask relevant questions to the concerned ministry, promote youth sports programs, and even propose motions to strengthen funding for sports development.”
According to Pieters, investment in sports is investment in society. Women’s football deserves the same opportunities and support as any other sports discipline.
FIFA as a Development Driver
A crucial factor in football progress in Aruba is the tremendous collaboration with FIFA. The global football organization invests in infrastructure, training, and development programs. However, this collaboration is not automatic; the national federation must comply with standards of governance, transparency, and strategic planning. According to Pieters, AVB demonstrates that when a federation meets international standards, investment and trust follow.
Youth Motivated to Wear Aruba Colors
During the event, Pieters also spoke with some players from the women’s national team. He was most impressed by the motivation of these young women representing Aruba.
“You can clearly see the pride they have for Aruba,” he commented. “These girls wear the flag on their chest and dream big.”
This energy shows that women’s football is not only growing but also inspiring the next generation. The presentation of the Women’s Development Program shows that Aruba has talent, vision, and leadership to continue elevating women’s football. However, sustainable progress requires ongoing commitment from the federation, government, and community.
Finally, Eduard stated:
“The PPA faction expresses its support for initiatives that promote equal opportunity, youth leadership, and national pride. Because when we invest in sports, we are not only creating champions, we are shaping strong citizens for Aruba’s future.”
