Key stakeholders from the healthcare sector gathered at Surfside Marina to participate in the landmark workshop, “Strengthening Rehabilitation in Aruba: From Strategy to Action.” The event signifies a major advancement in the ongoing effort to fortify rehabilitation as a core pillar of Aruban healthcare.

Throughout the workshop, participants exchanged expertise and perspectives regarding the rising demand for rehabilitation services on the island. This need is increasingly driven by a surge in chronic diseases, trauma cases, and an aging population. A central theme of the discussions was the shift in perception: rehabilitation must not be viewed merely as specialized care, but as an essential service required at every stage of life and across all levels of medical intervention.

A highlight of the gathering was the official launch of Aruba’s Rehabilitation Strategic Plan, alongside the introduction of the steering committee tasked with overseeing its implementation. Attendees were briefed on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) “Rehabilitation 2030” vision and explored strategies to better integrate these services into Aruba’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) framework.

Through various presentations and interactive sessions, stakeholders identified practical priorities to strengthen the sector. These include governance, strategic planning, community-based services, specialized medical training, sustainable financing, integrated information systems, and enhanced inter-organizational cooperation.

The workshop brought together representatives from the Ministry of Public Health, AZV (General Health Insurance), medical professionals, professional organizations, the media, and other relevant stakeholders. This broad participation fostered a constructive dialogue between policy makers, planners, and frontline healthcare practitioners.

Organizers expressed high satisfaction with the level of commitment and collaboration demonstrated. They emphasized that the immediate next step is to translate this strategy into concrete actions, ensuring improved access and quality of rehabilitation for the entire Aruban community.
