Minister Geoffrey Wever opposes the proposal to allocate 1% of the budget surplus to pay off Aruba’s national debt

Minister Geoffrey Wever

Minister of Finance Geoffrey Wever appeared in the Aruban Parliament to answer several questions related to the Kingdom Law HOFA.

According to him, the law will not hinder Aruba’s economic development, contrary to what has been said in Curaçao. However, Minister Wever disagreed with the idea that 1% of the budget surplus must be used to pay down Aruba’s national debt.

He believes that this percentage should remain free for the government to use at its discretion, rather than being automatically prioritized for debt repayment.
