Seven inspectors from the Directorate of Supervision and Law Enforcement were sworn in as Extraordinary Police Officers (Buitengewoon Agent van Politie – BAVPOL). With this swearing-in, the Directorate now has a total of 21 BAVPOL officers. This means the Directorate has more inspectors who can act within their granted competencies.
Earlier this year, the seven inspectors successfully completed their BAVPOL training. During this training, they acquired knowledge about criminal law and criminal procedure, among other topics. They also learned how to act professionally, how to draw up official reports (process-verbal), and how to properly exercise their authorities.
As BAVPOL officers, the inspectors hold certain powers that they can utilize during their work. Which competencies they can apply depends on their instructions, their commission, and current legislation and regulations. Within these frameworks, they are authorized, for example, to check and verify identities and to draw up official reports.
With 21 BAVPOL officers, the Directorate of Supervision and Law Enforcement can respond more immediately in various situations, provided they fall within the inspector’s competencies. This strengthens daily supervision and law enforcement, ensuring that inspectors can handle certain situations in a more professional and effective manner.
The swearing-in is part of the ongoing professionalization of the Directorate of Supervision and Law Enforcement. The Directorate continues to invest in the training, knowledge, and development of its employees, aiming to contribute to a safe, orderly, and livable Bonaire.
