Mana 3

On Monday, May 18, the National Archaeological Museum Aruba (MANA) will open its doors to celebrate International Museum Day 2026 with an extended schedule. The day promises a diverse program of special activities for the general public. MANA will be open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, inviting the community to gather for a special afternoon and evening. Admission is entirely free of charge.

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) has designated the theme for International Museum Day 2026 as: “Museums Uniting a Divided World.” The goal of this day is to raise awareness that “museums are an important means of cultural exchange and for the development of mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace.” In alignment with this mission, ICOM encourages museums to create accessible experiences that demonstrate a commitment to unity, dialogue, and harmony.

Program Highlights The festivities kick off with the program ‘Nos Mainta,’ which will broadcast live from MANA via TeleAruba, sharing the celebration with the entire island. At 12:15 PM, archaeologist drs. Harold Kelly will conduct a specialized guided tour for interested visitors.

Archaeologist drs. Raymundo Dijkhoff will present a lecture featuring new and valuable findings titled: “A Secondary Burial of a Woman, Child, and Monkey @ Isla: The Oldest Burial Site in Aruba.” The first session will take place at 3:00 PM, followed by a second session at 6:30 PM.

Art and Interactive Workshops Temporary exhibitions will also be open, with several artists on-hand to engage with the public. Bernadette van der Klooster will deliver an insightful Artist Talk, while the young artists featured in the vibrant exhibition “Parha di Aruba” (Birds of Aruba) will be available starting at 4:00 PM to discuss their work. Additionally, these young talents will host a free origami workshop, allowing visitors to create their own “peace birds” to hang in the MANA garden.

Throughout the evening, visitors can enjoy live music, singing, and poetry recitals. From 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, an “open mic” session will be available for those wishing to perform. Light refreshments and interactive family activities will be provided throughout the event.

MANA invites the entire Aruban community to join this celebration of International Museum Day on May 18, embracing an atmosphere of cultural exchange, inspiration, and peace.
