Grease: The Road to the Final Bow

Curacao

What began as a dream in an office at Cas di Cultura—to bring an internationally renowned show to Aruba—culminated in the granting of the official license to produce the musical GREASE. A great honor for Stichting Schouwburg Aruba and a testament to having earned the trust of such a major brand.

Following a casting call in March 2024, it transformed into one of the most beloved and successful theatrical journeys Aruba has seen in recent years. Grease: The Musical, organized by a passionate cast and team at Cas di Cultura, quickly became more than just a nostalgic throwback to the 1950s—it became a story of dedication, talent, and the power of community.

The audition took place in March 2024, attracting young talents from across the island, many of whom were stepping into leading roles for the very first time. After months of rehearsals, dance sessions, and vocal training, the production premiered in December 2024 to a full house and loud applause.

Five (5) shows were performed at Cas di Cultura, including one free show for secondary school students, and it was an instant success—capturing the hearts of theatergoers with its high-energy choreography, iconic music, and magnetic performances.

But the story didn’t end there.
Fueled by the overwhelming public response, the Grease team took the show on the road, bringing the production to Curaçao where they performed at the World Trade Center. The experience was both a cultural exchange and a triumphant moment for Aruba’s young performers, showcasing their talent on a regional stage and receiving rave reviews from audiences abroad.

Still, the demand for more remained strong back home. Messages poured in from fans who had missed the December run or who simply wanted to experience the magic again. So, we listened. The result? An encore presentation at the Paseo Herencia Ballroom in June 2025—a full-circle moment that honors the incredible journey this production has taken.

Along the way, many cast members have continued to blossom in their artistic careers. Mateo Lopez, who played Danny Zuko with unforgettable charisma, has since traveled to Los Angeles to deepen his craft through a series of acting workshops and classes. His recent work includes roles in independent short films like Shadows of the Past, proving that Grease was just the beginning.

Ryah Sy, our fierce Rizzo, has set her sights on a professional acting career, building on the momentum of her standout performance. Reanne Ras, who brought vulnerability to the role of Sandy, was already a highly active and successful young singer—particularly known for competitions like Soca Hubenil, Canto na nos Himno y Bandera, and even mariachi contests. Playing the lead role of Sandy was yet another expansion of her exceptional voice and allowed her to grow artistically through the genre of acting.

And then there’s Maria Ramirez, who portrayed the bubbly and loveable Frenchy. A multi-talented performer, she also leads the band LURK, which recently lit up the stage at the May edition of Battle of the Bands. Their energy and originality mirror the same passion she brought to the musical.

Unforgettable performances and love were also given to Daniel Caceres (Kenickie), Alakina Gonzalez (Doody), Ashanti Zimmerman and Kedhy Griffith (Pink Ladies Marty and Jan), Georvin Angela and Gideon Testing (T-Birds Roger and Sonny), Yona Heijliger (Teen Angel and Vince Fontaine), and Elan Kamperveen (Johnny Casino). We must not forget our unique “Miss Lynch” played by Desiree Cardose, “Patty Simcox” portrayed by Azy-lynn Tromp, and “Eugene” brought to life by Loui-Angelo Bislick. But the full atmosphere and overall production would not have been the same—nor possible—without the acting, singing, and dancing of the student ensemble from “Rydell High”: Stevie-Ann van Eer, Dayenne Croes, Jaylon Machado, Faviënne Thodé, Anne-Mae Curiel, Noha Arens, Whitney Nin, and Yeraldo Ordoñez Villafañe.

This production would not have been possible without the tireless work and vision of its creative team. On behalf of the entire Cas di Cultura team, Executive Producer of the show and Director of Cas di Cultura, Vicky Arens, extends heartfelt thanks to: Ferdinand Franca, Producer and Play Director, whose leadership and artistic vision shaped the production from the ground up;
Kevin Gumbs, whose choreography brought energy and storytelling to every number; Nicole van Eer, whose vocal coaching nurtured and elevated the voice of every performer; and Jaderick Croes, Band Leader of Tipico Colegio Arubano, whose musical direction brought the Grease score to life. The incredible stagehands and props team—Luty Martinez, Magda Nicolaas, and Harold Pereira—also deserve a big round of applause for their support. As founding members of Mascaruba, we stand on their shoulders!

A special tribute goes to Tipico Colegio Arubano, the student band led by Jaderick Croes with musician Darrell Lacle as his right hand. The band, made up of six incredibly talented musicians from Colegio Arubano—Kendall Hoo, Andley Isenadin, Stephanie Quant, Christiaan Bonnariba, Aidan Croes, and Kyanu Werlemen—added depth to every performance and reminded us of the artistic potential within Aruba’s youth.

Grease was never “just a show”. It was a movement—a coming together of creative voices, an incubator of new talent, and a shared celebration of performance. This encore at Paseo Herencia, totaling its tenth performance, is more than a final bow; it’s a thank-you to the community who supported this dream from day one.

As the curtain rises once again, we invite everyone to take a final ride down memory lane with us. The road to Grease has been long, thrilling, and unforgettable—and it’s all thanks to you.
