Otmar Oduber has stepped down from the Parliament of Aruba so that he can fully focus on his Flamingo case, which will resume next Monday. Oduber states that the Flamingo case has been ongoing for five years. In January, right after the elections, he received a ruling in which almost all accusations were dismissed. However, three days later, a corrected ruling was issued, in which the same judge altered the verdict. This allowed Oduber to remain a member of parliament, stay active as a politician, and continue appearing on a political list in Aruba.
The judge indicated that an error had been made in the original ruling in the first instance, and Oduber is pleased that the judge recognized and immediately corrected this mistake. The Public Prosecutor’s Office, however, was the only party dissatisfied with the judge’s decision and filed an appeal. This appeal will begin to be heard next Monday.
