Parliaments of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten deliberated on various topics during the Tripartite meeting in Curaçao

Geschellinregeling

The Parliament of Curaçao served as the host for the Tripartite meeting between the parliamentary delegations of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten. Following the official opening of the meeting, discussions began with a review of the agreements made during the previous Tripartite meeting. This was followed by a presentation from the Petit Comité Geschillenregeling (Special Committee on Dispute Regulation), which provided an overview of the progress made regarding the dispute settlement mechanism (Geschillenregeling). For each Tripartite meeting, topics are determined in advance, as was the case for today’s meeting. The next agenda item was the deliberation on various Kingdom Law proposals, serving as examples to emphasize how the Netherlands initiates processes impacting Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten without prior consultation. The delegations reached concrete agreements on this matter. Additionally, the delegations briefed one another on their respective national positions regarding the potential extension of the Mutual Agreements in the form of Country Packages (Landspakket), as well as the efforts being made by Parliaments and Governments concerning the history of slavery. The meeting provided the parliamentary delegations with the opportunity to exchange views on the aforementioned topics and to deliberate on matters relevant to cooperation among the Caribbean countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Tripartite meeting took place behind closed doors and was not open to the public or the press. The next Tripartite meeting is scheduled to take place on January 12 in Sint Maarten.
