Giancarlo Nuñes (FPNA): We have to learn to value and give nature its place so that we can survive in the world

Coastal Blue Carbon Cycle And The Role Of Mangrove In Removal Of Atmospheric Co2

On International Mangrove Day, Giancarlo Nuñes, Research and Conservation Manager Aruba at the National Park Foundation (FPNA) believes it is important to raise awareness of the importance of mangroves to us as human beings.

According to Giancarlo Nuñes the mangroves extract CO2 from the air. We are all aware that the world is going through the process of climate change and the climate is getting warmer and everyone is feeling it. According to Giancarlo Nuñes this is due to CO2 emissions from cars and factories entering the air and thus the world is warming.

However, mangroves and mangrove swamps can remove carbon dioxide from the air, so the more mangrove forests there are, the more air that can be cleaned from the CO2 that’s released, and the more that can be used to combat the effects of climate change to prevent the climate from warming.

The mangrove forests process more clean air than any other forests on the island. When a country has cleaner air its citizens breathe cleaner air and are less likely to be polluted by internal diseases that can even be fatal. Photo provided by ResearchGate.
