Last week, the National Library of Aruba (Biblioteca Nacional Aruba – BNA) was honored with a beautiful recognition for its successful project ‘Storytelling at the Homes of Our Elderly’ (Conta Cuenta na Cas di nos Grandinan). This achievement comes exactly at the moment when the project is celebrating two decades of existence, covering the period from 2006 to 2026.
The project, which falls under the service department for “Our Elderly”, has the primary goal of bringing joy, literature, and a moment of meaningful company to the elderly adults living in nursing homes around the island. Through stories and tales that evoke nostalgia, this initiative has proven to be a fundamental pillar for the emotional well-being of our elderly.
A collective effort that bore fruit This recognition is not the achievement of a single person, but the result of teamwork, which the National Library of Aruba strongly emphasized and expressed gratitude for. The success over these long years is thanks to:
The Organizing Committee: Which for 20 years ensured the logistics and the selection of the best stories.
The Media Team: In charge of broadcasting and giving visibility to these beautiful events.
Sponsors and Allies: Who believed in the vision and provided the necessary financial and material support.
Volunteers and Collaborators: All those who, in one way or another, contributed their grain of sand to keep the project alive.
“This award is a testament to what we can achieve when a community unites to give love and attention to our elderly. The National Library of Aruba cordially thanks every person and company that has contributed to this project for so many years,” the spokesperson expressed.
Sustaining our culture and heritage With the ‘Storytelling at the Homes of Our Elderly’ project, BNA not only combats the loneliness that often affects our older adults, but also keeps the oral tradition of Aruba alive. Through these stories, valuable memories are revived, and the value and respect that our elderly deserve in our society are reaffirmed.
The National Library of Aruba reaffirms its commitment to continue with this noble cause, hoping to be able to count on the same support for many more years. Congratulations to BNA and the entire team on this well-deserved recognition!
