In a critical analysis regarding the financial and social situation in Aruba, Member of Parliament Edgar Vrolijk expressed his concern over the lack of vision of the current cabinet. According to Vrolijk, the management of the Prime Minister and his team does not focus on structural solutions, which puts the well-being of the people of Aruba in danger.
Lack of structural management Vrolijk emphasized that the management of the Cabinet has proven to be deficient. For the MP, the main problem is that there is no structural policy to ensure the combating of the constant rise in the cost of living that is affecting every citizen. The MP mentioned that the strategies presented do not attack the root of the problem, but are simply “band-aid” measures that do not bring lasting relief.
The risk of government dependency A cardinal point in Vrolijk’s statement is the concern that current measures, such as the increase in the minimum wage, could have a counterproductive effect.
• Dangerous dependency: Vrolijk explained that the measures create a dangerous dependency of the citizen on the Government, instead of stimulating the person’s autonomy.
• Social abyss: The MP categorized this vision as one that leads the country to an “abyss,” where the citizen loses their independence and remains tied to state aid in order to survive.
Call for a change in direction According to Vrolijk, it is urgent for the Government to change this course and begin working on measures that stimulate the citizen to achieve progress through their own efforts. The MP urges for a vision that is not based on short-term politics, but on a solid economic structure that can guarantee a dignified future for all inhabitants of Aruba.
