The Aruba Public Health Inspectorate is preparing for its next major event in the medical sector. The fourth edition of the Quality of Healthcare Conference IVA 2026, titled “Risky Business,” promises to bring professionals together to address critical challenges surrounding risk management and healthcare safety.
So far, interest in this conference has been exceptionally high. The organization has officially confirmed that registration for the event is full, which underscores the urgency and commitment of the local medical sector to these topics. For those who did not manage to register in time but still wish to attend, there is the option to join a waiting list via the link made available by the inspectorate.
A high-level program
The day will start early with registration and an official opening at 8:30 a.m. by Inspector General Dorylee Pappers-Lopez Penha, followed by a welcome speech and official opening by the Minister of Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care, and Addiction, Mervin Wyatt-Ras.
The program includes several key and interactive presentations, including:
• Disruption Management: Emily Ras, MSc will present the topic “What If Tomorrow Doesn’t Go as Planned? Managing Disruption Before It Manages You” at 8:50.
• Healthcare Safety: Ian Leistikow, PhD will give a talk on the transition from human error to system resilience at 9:20.
• Innovation and Management: Sulima Geerman, PhD and Ingmar Ramharakh will address crucial topics such as “Flirting with Risk” and “From Risk to Results” during the morning.
• Public Health: Chris Franca, MD will focus on health risk management and colon cancer screening at 11:35.
Interactive Sessions (Breakouts)
An important aspect of the conference is the opportunity for all attendees to participate in three different breakout sessions, utilizing a room-rotation system:
• Room A: Expect the Unexpected: From Risk-Based Governance to Business Continuity.
• Room B: Risk It, Learn It, Fix It: Turning Complexity into Practical Improvement.
• Room C: From Blind Spots to Better Outcomes: Applying Safety Science and
Early Detection to Prevent Harm.
The conference will conclude in the main hall following a general session to evaluate the lessons learned from the day. Under the motto “Risk informed, quality driven,” this event reaffirms the goal of Aruba’s inspectorate to continue elevating the standards of quality and safety in our medical sector.
