Member of Parliament Xiomara Maduro was present at the commemorative event organized by the National Archives of Aruba (ANA) in connection with the International Day of Remembrance of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and its Abolition.
It was a special afternoon of commemoration, education, and reflection, featuring presentations by the National Archives of Aruba, UNESCO, the Kingdom Committee for the Commemoration of Slavery, and PENSA.
During the program, several videos were presented about our “heroes of freedom”: those who, with their courage and resistance, fought for freedom and human dignity.
The talented Jair Britten provided a musical contribution that gave the afternoon an even deeper and more meaningful atmosphere.
The event culminated in a moment of reflection, during which those present could share their thoughts and feelings about slavery and the impact that this past still has on our society.
For MP Maduro, events like this are important to keep our historical memory alive and to give future generations a better understanding of the past.
“Remembering our history is not for us to remain stuck in it, but to honor those who suffered, recognize those who resisted, and understand how the past has shaped our society. Only in this way can we continue working together toward a future based on freedom, equality, and respect for the dignity of every human being,” Maduro expressed.
