During the public meeting to discuss the Investment Fund, MEP faction Member of Parliament Endy Croes came forward to address and correct the insinuations made by MP Stephanie Sevinger. Croes emphasized that while the opposition attempts to pull political stunts, they will always respond with facts and official documents.
According to Croes, the opposition MP deliberately diverted attention by bringing up a sum of 9 million florins and making insinuations toward the MEP faction leader and party leader, Evelyn Wever-Croes, hinting that her father was involved with this money without offering any proper explanation.
Clarification regarding Hendrik Croes
To bring complete clarity to this matter, Endy Croes provided an explanation regarding the career of Mr. Hendrik Croes:
“Hendrik Croes worked for over 40 years in the legal profession; he is respected in Aruba, across the Caribbean, and internationally. He is an 84-year-old gentleman who retired many years ago. This was officially published—who the partners are—and he no longer has anything to do with the law firm where he worked for so many years.”
MP Endy Croes expressed that he finds it regrettable how such a young MP plays around with this topic without any basis whatsoever.
Details from the Court Ruling and the Avestruz Case
Endy Croes went on to explain that when the opposition tries to use incorrect information, the public must be reminded of what is actually written in the court ruling (vonnis) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) documents in the Avestruz Case:
- Page 6 of the Ruling: Croes cited part of the investigation into this case, which outlines how a prominent former minister, Sevinger, used his position to make his friends filthy rich (“vrienden stinkend rijk heeft laten worden”).
- Seizure at Girobank: During the investigation, authorities seized 2.4 million florins at Girobank in Curaçao belonging to Benny Sevinger’s “right-hand man,” who was also sentenced.
- Use of funds: That sum of 2.4 million florins was used to pay for the construction of a drainage system, a gym, and repairs to the fence at Benny Sevinger’s home.
“We come with facts”
In his conclusion, MP Endy Croes sent a clear message to parliamentarians who wish to play political games:
“It is good to stand up and remind the public of this. When parliamentarians want to play games or pull political stunts, we come with facts that are present in official documents anyone can read,” and not just talk for the sake of speaking nonsense.
