The representative of the AVP faction leader, Jennifer Arends-Reyes, also received the manifesto presented by former minister Otmar Oduber and confirmed that the document will be thoroughly evaluated within her faction. AVP reiterated that they support the view that the same legal protection and treatment for ministers in Aruba must be guaranteed as exists in the Netherlands.
It was emphasized that this lack of equality is creating a delicate precedent that directly affects governance and the political future of the country.
AVP calls for the attention of the ministers concerned—not only Minister Geoffrey Wever, but also Minister Arthur Dowers—to properly address this matter and give it the priority it deserves.
It was pointed out that in the Netherlands, there is a completely different process and treatment for politicians. The rigorous manner in which investigations are conducted in Aruba destroys a person’s life and career long before there is a final verdict, creating “a very dangerous wind” that could deter professional and qualified individuals from entering politics to serve Aruba.
AVP emphasized that if there are doubts or complaints against a politician, these must be handled properly and with the necessary rigor. However, there must be processes, solutions, and agreements that provide solid legal guarantees while the individual is in office, in order to maintain governance stability.
The faction concluded that this is a matter of utmost importance for all politicians of all political parties and for the general well-being of Aruba, which is why AVP will treat this manifesto with all seriousness.
