the Klimaattafel Bonaire project group officially launched its first series of climate table dialogues in the neighborhoods. The kickoff session took place at the community center in Amboina and was aimed at residents of Tera Kora and surrounding areas. Although attendance was modest, the discussion was rich and meaningful. Experiences about how the climate used to be, the importance of well-designed dams, and practical ways people can collect and manage rainwater in their own living environment were shared. The session was led by Mr. Nolly Oleana, chair of the project group.
A special youth session was held on Wednesday, June 18th. Students from grades 7 and 8 of primary schools De Pelikaan, Rayo di Solo, Kolegio San Luis Bertran Rincon, Het Koraal, along with students from Liseo, engaged in a discussion with the project group about climate change on Bonaire.
It was an inspiring session with active participation from the students, who voiced their concerns. A key issue that emerged was that climate change is rarely discussed at home, even though it affects everyone. The students also expressed that, in their view, not enough is currently being done on the island to effectively address the challenges of climate change. On June 19th, the next session took place in Playa.
Haven’t joined yet? You’re welcome to participate!
There are still several upcoming climate table sessions. We warmly invite all residents to take part in one of the following:

• July 3rd – Sociedad Padua Rincon
• July 8th – Sentro di Bario Nort Salina

• July 14th – Sentro di Bario Amboina
Come join the conversation and help shape a sustainable future for Bonaire. Our island, our responsibility.
In preparation for these sessions, informative flyers were distributed in each neighborhood with the support of local community police and neighborhood leaders.
