In Aruba, our native language, Papiamento, is a symbol of national pride. The education of a people begins with respect for its own language, and that same respect must be reflected toward everyone who lives on the island, including immigrants who become part of our multicultural community.

During official occasions and national celebrations, Aruba’s symbols must occupy the central place. The flag of Aruba, with its distinctive colors, represents the nation and its people. Even though the Netherlands is part of our history and relationships, during national celebrations the main focus should remain on local symbols.

Critics point out that the focus was not sufficiently placed on Aruban identity, something that needs to be corrected to ensure that our culture and language do not lose their prominence.
Additionally, there are concerns about how the current AVP-FUTURO government manages and promotes national identity. Different voices within the community express that there is a lack of sufficient emphasis on respect and appreciation for Aruba as a nation.
