In many cases, people struggling with addiction or mental health problems do not always reach the care services that are available. For some individuals, taking the step to seek help becomes a major obstacle.
On Wednesday evening, in the presence of Justice Minister Mr. Drs. Arthur Dowers, Public Health Minister Drs. Mervin Wyatt-Ras, and Minister of Kingdom Relations Mr. Gerlien Croes, along with a large group of invited guests from the private sector and other stakeholders, Stichting Hunto presented its new mobile unit, an additional instrument that will allow professionals to reach people directly who are living on the streets or facing addiction and mental health problems.
The mobile unit will be present at different locations around the island to provide basic assistance, guidance, and referrals for outpatient addiction treatment. The main objective is to create a bridge between existing care services and people who, for different reasons, do not always have access to these services.
The project became a reality mainly thanks to financial support from private entities, which contributed to making the purchase of the Mobile Outreach Unit possible. This collaboration shows how the private sector is also taking responsibility for strengthening social well-being in Aruba and helping address addiction and mental health issues.
Stichting Hunto is a non-profit organization focused on mental health care, addiction treatment, and social reintegration. With this new mobile unit, the organization is expanding its capacity to reach more people who need support.
This initiative is a clear example of how collaboration between the private sector and the social sector can create concrete solutions to challenges faced by the community. Minister Dowers thanked every organization that recognized the importance of supporting this important cause and congratulated Stichting Hunto on this achievement.
