While Aruba is in a delicate position with HOFA Minister Geoffrey Wever on a “pleasure trip” to New York, London, and Amsterdam

Minister Geoffrey Wever

The Minister of Financial Affairs and Integrity, Geoffrey Wever, recently departed on an official trip to the cities of New York, London, and Amsterdam, accompanied by two employees from his public department. According to reports, the main purpose of the trip is to hold meetings with various investors and financial institutions abroad.

In an interview, Minister Wever stated that the work agenda already includes a series of scheduled meetings with investors who have shown interest in Aruba. During these meetings, extensive information will be presented regarding the economic opportunities the island offers and how investments can contribute to local economic growth.

Minister Wever indicated that there is a list of investors who are closely monitoring Aruba’s economic developments and who are evaluating possibilities to invest in different sectors. He stated that the meetings aim to strengthen confidence in the Aruban market and create opportunities for sustainable development.

But what investors does Aruba really need at this moment? There is still no clear answer to this, and no proper research has yet been conducted on this matter. This shows that the AVP-FUTURO government does not have a clear economic direction regarding what it wants for Aruba, but is instead searching for ad-hoc investors for Aruba. Are these wise decisions for the country of Aruba?

Aruba needs to conduct research and an evaluation of what the country truly needs and what type of investors the nation requires. What Arubans themselves can do in Aruba, it is the duty of a government to support that and create opportunities for local people. Is this really happening?

Minister Geoffrey Wever has carried out different trade missions in various countries. In reality, has this been a fruitful process for Aruba? What exactly are the goals and achievements of the trade missions that have already taken place in different countries? Has Aruba truly achieved something from these efforts, or was it merely a show and a waste of the Aruban people’s money?
