Eduard Pieters of PPA: 55 Years of Famia Planea Aruba Foundation and Continuing Investment in Our Children and Youth
Famia Planea Aruba Foundation (FPA) celebrates a historic and immensely valuable achievement: 55 years of existence, 55 years of tireless commitment to the welfare, education, and development of our community. Eduard Pieters stated: “For us, as part of the PPA, this is not simply an anniversary; it is a celebration of an institution rightly considered a backbone in the critical areas of sexual education, preventive sexual health, and family education on our island. We extend heartfelt congratulations and deep appreciation to everyone who has dedicated their professional lives to the noble mission of Famia Planea Aruba Foundation.”
New Material for Teams and Youth Guidance
During the celebration, FPA presented a major step forward for the future of our children: new educational material developed in collaboration with a Dutch institute. This demonstrates visionary leadership and a fundamentally evidence-based, modern educational approach.
The material, already translated and soon to reach schools, teaches our children to:
• Value themselves,
• Understand sexuality in an age-appropriate way,
• Respect boundaries and social norms,
• And, importantly, make informed decisions to prevent transmissible diseases.
The didactic-pedagogical approach is based on developing skills for self-care, self-esteem, critical thinking, and respect. This lays the foundation for a generation that is sexually healthier, more confident, in control, and clear about their rights and personal responsibilities.
Value of International Collaboration
According to Eduard: “As a small island with limited resources, Aruba must strategically collaborate with external institutions. This is a smart, pragmatic strategy suitable for our reality. Foreign institutes have decades of experience, research, and robust frameworks: with their guidance, Aruba can adapt, contextualize, and produce educational material aligned with international standards and local needs. This results in a final product that is stronger, up-to-date, and more impactful in teaching.”
This type of collaboration shows leadership and ambition and positions Aruba as a country committed to quality and prevention.
