AVP-FUTURO government playing with the daily bread of the people of Aruba

Georga Vieira

In recent days, George Vieira, owner of George Cycle Rental, expressed his dissatisfaction with how the government implemented the decision to limit ATV and UTV routes. Vieira, who has 49 years of experience in the industry, emphasizes that tour companies have the greatest interest in taking care of Aruba’s nature, as it is the main attraction they present to tourists.

Economic and operational impact According to Vieira, this measure is counterproductive, as these companies generate revenue for the country directly and indirectly. The expenses these companies have, including the purchase of vehicles, gasoline, licenses, and tax payments, contribute directly to the government’s coffers. Furthermore, the banks that finance these businesses are also affected, which could create a negative “domino” effect for our economy.

Concern for the tourism sector The businessman warns that if there is no rapid change, the tourism sector could face massive cancellations of reservations. Vieira points out that there are tourists already canceling their trips due to the uncertainty, which could mean a decline in tourism by the end of the year. The AVP-FUTURO government is playing with the daily bread of the people of Aruba.

Lack of attention from the Government Faced with this situation, Vieira sought contact with several parliamentarians to explain the urgency of the problem, but he denounces that the minister in charge, René Herdé, did not answer his emails or give the necessary attention to these concerns.
