According to David Seferina, MFK Faction Leader: More revenue for the government must mean more well-being for the people

At a time when many families in Curaçao are feeling the pressure of rising prices and the cost of living, the most recent financial figures show a reason for hope and progress. When government revenue increases, it should not just remain a figure on paper; rather, it must become a real opportunity to invest in the people, strengthen our community, and create a better future for everyone. For the MFK Faction, true progress is not measured solely in millions of florins, but in the positive impact it has on the daily lives of our people.

It can be observed that during the first quarter of 2026, an increase of more than 37 million florins in tax revenue was registered. According to the published figures, the government received a total of 557 million florins in revenue, while 520 million florins had originally been budgeted. For the MFK faction, this positive result represents an encouraging sign for the financial and economic development of Curaçao, and an indication that there is room to continue working on strengthening our economy and the well-being of the people.

This positive result was driven mainly by higher revenues from profit tax, sales tax, and motor vehicle tax, all of which contributed to a tax revenue superior to what was anticipated. Additionally, Curaçao received an extra contribution of 5.5 million florins from the Netherlands, destined for the education sector and various projects related to the “Country Package” (Landenpakket).

The MFK faction is of the opinion that this positive development should not be evaluated solely from a financial point of view, but also from its social impact on our community. For the MFK faction, growth in government revenue must reflect in better living conditions for the people, more opportunities for young people to develop their future, more support for families, and a stronger, established, and resilient middle class. An economy that grows must benefit the people. Every extra florin that enters the government treasury must reflect in more well-being, more progress, and more opportunities for our community.

The MFK faction emphasizes that the government must use this extra financial space with responsibility, vision, and a social conscience, by investing strategically in sectors that directly touch the daily lives of the people. Among others, in education, neighborhood development, public cleaning, social security, and the creation of more economic opportunities for our youth and families. For the MFK faction, an improved financial situation for the government only has true value when it translates into palpable progress, greater well-being, and a better quality of life for the people of Curaçao.
